The traditional handicraft test is already unsuitable or even dissatisfied for practical test requirement and it's the inevitable choice to adopt the auto test system. In 1986, the National Instruments Corporation of American put forward the conception of virtual instrument and it aroused the revolution in the field of measurement & control, the automatic test system entered the third development stage.During the development of the automatic test system, the bus technology is very important. The bus ability affects the system performance directly, which connects the controller and programmable instruments. Continuous renews of bus technology push the improvement of the automatic test technique. The test bus mainly includes the instrument bus and the compute bus. GPIB, which was active in the early stage of the automatic test system, has been already withdrawn from the market gradually. VXI and PXI cost too high, they mainly be used to build the big or medium automatic test system and the situation which request high speed and accuracy. LXI is still immaturity, develop the LXI test system have a certain difficulty and venture. Among the computer bus, although they have the PCI bus which is high speed and the USB which is convenience for connecting, they don't have the synchronous & trig function for instruments. So, it is very difficult to build the reconfigurable monitoring system. Using personal bus to develop test system can absorb the advantages of others and find balance between function and cost, using the lowest cost to achieve the best function.The task of this thesis is to aim at the front of the international test & measurement and the automatic region, research & design a reconfigurable monitoring system, including signal generator, data acquisition and data analysis & process for experimentation & teaching and industry measurement & control, resolve the problems of college experimentation hard and current test system expensive.The reconfigurable monitoring system is divided into hardware platform and software platform. The hardware platform adopts modular design method to modularize some general purpose test instruments though a special specification. And then integration them into a 3U size cabinet though personal bus. The function-modules are controlled by the system controller, which communicates with compute through USB2.0 interface. The software platform adopts graphic virtual instrument software LabVIEW, which uses CLF node to interface with instrument driver. The instrument driver packages the I/O operation into function by DLL and it calls USB driver to achieve data in & out.The thesis concisely introduces the development background, present status, trend of development of automatic test system.
