In recent years,great advances about video compression technology have been achieved. Undoubtedly, digital video monitoring has been flourishing greatly. Many kinds of video compression encoding criterions had been established, but the arithmetic to realize these criterions is very complex. Pure software couldn't make good quality while pure hardware cost too much. As of a high performance real time video monitoring system, the hardware model and software design are both important.Firstly, after comparing several method of video monitoring system, a monitoring scheme based on PCI Bus was proposed. The video monitoring system was composed of a video compression card with TriMedia TM1300 at the core based on PCI bus and PC, which can accept many kinds of analog video input. Digital video input of the system was in YUV 4:2:2 format from itu-bt.656 capable video encoder, such as AP-5200.Secondly, the main chip and pSOS operation system and hardware design of this system were expatiated.Thirdly, the software based on TSSA (Trimedia Streaming Software Architecture) is developed to implement high speed raw video stream acquisition and processing.Finally, the problems,application and improvement of the proposed scheme are introduced.
