A software-defined radio (SDR) system is a radio communication system which can change the main parameters of the system by means of programmable hardware which is controlled by software. It contains two core ideas, one is to implement almost the whole baseband and I.F. system by digital methods, and the other is to perform the significant amounts of signal processing in a reconfigurable hardware platform controlled by software. Moreover, with the rapid progress of the performance of the programmable device, we can design the above system much more easily and efficiently. Thus, the desitination of this paper is to design and implement an all digital spread spectrum transceiver based on FPGA.In this paper, we firstly focus on the key technology of spread spectrum transceiver, and then introduce the basic theories and fundamental operating principles. Based on these theories and some ASIC chips, such as Z87200 and HFA3824, we discuss the solution of our transceiver. Moreover, we also design a whole hardware test platform, which includes both digital and analog portion. Here, we adopt the Altera Cyclone II series FPGA EP2C35F672C6 as the platform of the digital portion and use some other special ICs designed by ADI, TI, Intersil and Mini-Circuits to implentment the analog portion. And finally, all the modules of our transiver are described by using Verilog HDL.At last, based on the test instruments from our lab, we set down the detailed test plan and make the test. After that, we draw some useful hardware test experience and present an improved spread spectrum transceiver scheme based on SOPC.
