Since the feudal times of book-collecting mansion of 19th century through the computer age of 20th century as well as to the nowdays'network popularity, people have been facilitated by the convenience provided by the promotion of information service of library. Modern library is now in the transitional stage changing from traditional one to digitalized one . In the new era, service environment, resources and clients have changed dramatically, challenging the information service of library.This paper, based on the current information service status, describes the increasing demand of information service by the clients as the interior incentive to the innovation of information service, competitive market of information service as the exterior incentive. Innovation of information service is not blindly conducts and has to stick to some principles such as uniqueness, sustainability, co-ordinance, adaptability, practicality, beneficialness and satisfaction. Traditional"Five Library Principles"as well as the new"Five Library Principles"are still the theoretical foundation for information service of library. The size of library and the collection have not been the competitive advantages. The distinguished service is the key. The paper illustrates the innovation of information service in terms of theoretical point of view, service philosophy, service manner and service content, constructing a framework for the information service innovation. It is highlighted that information service innovation is not intended for the short-term development of clients and the purpose of economic benefits, but for a long-term development through innovative information service and assessment of the needs of clients to promote the client satisfaction. Innovation of library information service, therefore, is the a systematical work including innovative models, approach and content involved, and of guiding value to the practice of library.
