An Epidemiology Study For Mental Health Status Of Journalists In Dalian Of China

Objectives The purpose of the study was to explore physical and mental health state of journalism, and related to psychological stressor, personality type and occupational characteristic.Methods and Objects Choose 240 employees who were employed by newspaper office in DaLian area randomly. According to their different work divide all employees into four groups.There are staffers group, editors group, phone operators and dest clerks group and proof readers and typesets group.Physical and mental health state was assessed by 4 measuring Questionnaires: Generalized case Questionnaire, Symptom check list 90 (SCL-90), Life event scale (LES) and Eysenck personality questionnaire (EPQ). The data were acquired by 4 questionnaires, and were analyzed using Statistical Package for Science (SPSS10.0). We have used t test, One Way ANOVA, Multiple Linear Regression (Backward), Spearman correlation and Pearson correlation.Results1) Analysis to psychological health status (SCL-90): Compare all employees of journalism with norm, all factors have significant difference (p<0.01).2) All factors of SCL-90 have significant difference in four groups (p<0.05). phone operators and dest clerks groups have the worst mental health level in all groups (p<0.01).3) LES: In the four groups, all the factors have significant difference (p<0.01).4) EPQ: In the four groups, except line factor all the factors have significant difference (p<0.05).5) Analysis for the SCL-90 of all employees of journalism, that correlated with the EPQ, LES and general datum: EPQ nervousness and psychoses positively correlated with all factors of SCL-90 (p<0.01), concel negative correlation with all factors of SCL-90 (p<0.01). Exterior and interior personality negative correlation with anxious (p<0.01), depression (p<0.05) and phobia (p<0.01). LES total quantity of stimulus positively correlated with all factors of SCL-90 (p<0.01). Except phobophobia, the other factors positively correlated with positive quantity of stimulus and negativity quantity of stimulus (p<0.01) . General datum satisfactory degree for occupation, satisfactory degree for leader, satisfactory degree for prospect and income negative correlated with SCL-90 total score (p<0.01). The risk factors of all employees of journalism include income, psychiats, nervousness and negativity quantity of stimulus. The risk factors of Phone operators and dest clerks groups from big to small are psychoses, satisfactory degree for leader, self-injurious behavior and exterior and interior personality. Staffers mental stress state are better than editors, phone operators and dest clerks and proof readers and typesets.
