In the first part of this paper, the author reviews the development of video surveillance system, and compares the advantages and disadvantages of the video surveillance system in different stages. The future video surveillance system must be an integrated system which is digital,networked, integrative and intelligent. The video surveillance system based on embedded video web server will become the primary selection in the video surveillance market in the future.The second part analyzes one of the key technologies in digital video surveillance system: video compressed technology.Some popular video compressed standards such as H.263,Mpeg4, H.264 are compared here, and H.263 is chose as the video compressed standard in the paper. The author also analyses in detail the video format of the USB camera used in this paper.The third part is about the hardware platform and software platform. It focus on why we choose embedded Linux as the software platform and the process of porting Linux2.6.11. It also discusses the structure of USB protocol,the model of USB driver and USB video driver under Linux. Combined with the knowledge of the data format of USB camera, the auther implements an USB camera driver under Embedded Linux.The forth part discusses the process of implementing the system, including the video server and the video client. Then the author designs the four-level architecture, after discussing the advantages and disadvantages of the two-level and three-level architectures. This architecture avoids the disadvantages of the two-level and three-level architectures and achieves such purpose: centralized-control and load-sharing.The author suggests a authorization-authentication secure control strategy, after discussing the secure problems existing in this architecture.At last, the author concludes the works done in this paper and gives some research points to be continued.
