In recent years, video surveillance system has been widely used in people's daily life, industry production, bank, traffic and security department. As the development of technology, there are three generations in the development of video surveillance system, the first generation is video surveillance system based on analog signals, the second generation is local video surveillance system based on digital signal, and the trend is digital and network-based. Now video surveillance has developed to the third generation which is called network video surveillance system. It integrates Internet network transfer technology, video encode and decode technology, embedded system, multimedia transfer and control technology. Network video surveillance system which is based on computer network can transmit the mass of real time video data, and provide more visible and effective video for the remote user.This thesis gives a design of embedded network video surveillance system which integrates embedded, video and network technologies together. Compared with the system based on PC, embedded network video surveillance system is low cost, easy in usage and upgrade, etc. The system realizes remote video surveillance on Internet, the video captured by USB camera is compressed, then it is transmitted to embedded Web server through the internal bus, users in client can view the video from embedded Web server by using browser, and this can be monitored without the limitation of distance.The system selects embedded Linux (kernel 2.6.8) as the software platform, selects the ARM9 based on S3C2410 microprocessor as the hardware platform, and uses open source software to develop applications in server, for example, we select boa as the software of Web server. It runs by means of backstage and waits for clients' request by browser. There are six chapters in the thesis. The first chapter introduces the development of the video surveillance system, also summarizes the embedded system; the second chapter introduces the design of embedded network video surveillance system; the third chapter introduces the transplant of embedded Linux OS, the fourth chapter introduces the transplant of the drivers of CS8900A and USB camera, the fifth chapter introduces the implementation of video surveillance application on capture and compression, the design of embedded Web server and the test of the system, the last chapter gives the summary and prospect of the system.
