Abrasive waterjet cutting technology has been widely used for its considerable advantages over traditional techniques. However, there are usually some deficiencies in surface finish for its particular technical properties. The state of abrasive feed has a great effect upon the qualities of machining with abrasive waterjet. Abrasive feed system for abrasive waterjet generally has the disadvantages of uneven supply of abrasive and can not control accuratly abrasive flowrate. The study on the key technology of abrasive feed system for the abrasive waterjet was carried out. A new device of abrasive feed system using screw-feeder was proposed.Mechanism of the abrasive feed system with screw, electrical driving and control system are designed detailedly in this paper. Then the abrasive feed system with screw was simulated.Abrasive feed device with vertical screw is adopted. According to the performance requirement and working features, control scheme of the abrasive feed system with screw is designed in detail. By using servo DC motor to drive screw axis and using Pulse Width Modulation technology, the rotational speed of the motor is controlled. Industrial computer is higher level computer, programmable malti-axis controller is lower level computer in the closed loop control system. The closed loop control system can guarantee accuracy of abrasive feed rate.The mathematic model of the abrasive feed system with screw was build. Then the simulation of system are carried out based on MATLAB/Simulink software. The results of the simulation offers the corresponding basis for the optimization and evaluation of the system parameters.The numerical control abrasive feed system with screw is economy, functional, high reliability. It has higher practicability and good promising in application.
