Discussion On The Social Dramatic Phenomenon Of TV Civil News

Erving Goffman, the most excellent sociologist in 20th century once put forward the "Social Dramatic Theory".The core concept is "Performativity of Humans".Goffman compares humans'daily communication and life to dramatic performance.Everybody is an individual performer or a member of the drama team.They perform according to the requirement of their own role on different stages and under certain scenes.The process of shooting, producing and broadcasting of TV civil news is that the producer and broadcaster divide the work and cooperate with each other surrounding a common idea of programs.The party of an affair reveals their actions and thoughts in front of the camera lens; however,the images of the party before and behind the camera lens are absolutely different.The receiver of TV is the audience of the party. In this way,TV civil news has somewhat the quality of social drama: The performer is the party of the affair; both the producer and the broadcasting group are the members of the drama team. In order to mold the image he wants, the party will consciously or unconsciously makes some performance to idealize, miscomprehend,mystify and remedies their actions and languages. Because of the dramatization and performativity of TV civil news,the problems of media imposition,plainness and truth crisis come into being.How to decrease performativity and reveal the private fields of civilians to improve the quality of TV civil news are the emphases of the whole thesis.This thesis brings forward some suggestions in six aspects:the proper expression of actions behind the stage-close to the civilians but not plain;the recombination of the social environment of role performance-make the party's consciousness on and behind the stage unclear; the opposition and balance of the orientation report-mystery but not apotheosis; less and careful use of remedy performance;proper use of "interviewee's narration before the camera";full use of the advantages of various shooting methods.No method is almighty,so we should use them together so as to have a good effect and improve the quality ofTV civi lnews.
