PC computing and storage capabilities have greatly improved due to the rapid evolution of computer technologies. At the same time, broad-band access has become more and more popular among Internet users. The combined effect of these events is a revolution in the field of video conferencing. Solutions based on special device and telecom network are being replaced by solutions based on PC and Internet. However, the media transport mechanisms of most existing products are based on central-server mode, which sets a severe limitation on the system's stability and scalability.P2P (Peer to Peer) is a brand new concept in network structure. By leveraging the computing and storage capabilities of scattered net nodes to distribute information, it greatly reduces the possibility of single-point failure and solves the transport bottle-neck problems. Because of its decentralization, scalability and robustness, P2P has become a new trend in Internet development. This article compares several typical P2P network models and makes real-time and stability improvements on CoolStreaming, a P2P-based media transport model, and then introduces the P2P-based media transport solution for video conferencing, which emphasizes real-time assurance mechanisms including member performance evaluation, partner replacement policy, dynamic buffer and delay issues. Finally, it validates the feasibility of the mode design in practice and gives some improvement suggestions based on system testing results.
