Study On The Web-based Knowledge Building Community

Abstract: The development of modern learning theory pushed Knowledge Building to a prominent position. The change of attention from the transferring of knowledge to the constructing of knowledge is a great progress of learning study, while the change of emphasis from the Individual Knowledge Building to the Social Knowledge Building is another. The emphasis on Knowledge Building in a community just comes from the later change. Knowledge is no more unchanged but constructed, and it is the belief in a certain social constructing process, and also it is the result of negotiating between people in a certain circumstance, so knowledge is developing and improving incessantly. It provides theory and practice space in which the Knowledge Building Community (KBC) acts as the learning organizing form.This dissertation just begins in the above background. The aims of this dissertation are as follows: discussing the KBC theory systematically, deeply analyzing the process of Knowledge Building in a community and the forming mechanism of community under the network circumstance, and also doing a primary design on the support environment of KBC based on Wiki.Learning environment is crucial in network learning. The web-based KBC is an important environment which could satisfy the educational request of the Knowledge Era, provide an open learning environment for learners, and promote gaining, classifying, saving and sharing of knowledge, and as a result, it provides a new way for designing the web-based learning environment. At the same time, from the viewpoint of knowledge accumulation, the Cooperative Knowledge Building could make the knowledge which is in a community be shared, constructed and increased in the frequently use, and the knowledge is also accumulated in this process. The web-based KBC provides a new way of sharing the network learning resources and constructing the network resources center, so the study is significant.The main contents of this dissertation are as follows: choosing the Knowledge Building as the cut-in point, and carrying through the discuss surrounding how to promote the Individual Knowledge Building and the Cooperative Knowledge Building in a community. Firstly, it defines the concepts involved in this dissertation, explains the meanings of Knowledge, Building, and Knowledge Building definitely, discusses the central concept KBC in details, and deeply explores the theory origins of KBC. Secondly, it generally introduces the theory basis of KBC. Thirdly, it studies the process and mode of Knowledge Building in a community deeply, and analyzes the main factors which could influence the Knowledge Building. And then it does a further study of Knowledge Building under the network circumstance from the viewpoint of the web-based instruction management, with emphasis on the design principle and the forming elements. Lastly, according to the theory, it does a primary design on the support environment of KBC based on Wiki.Knowledge Building in Education of the Knowledge Era should transfer its attention to ttie Cooperative Khowledge Buildihg and exploiting, lead the learners participate in the activities which could create new knowledge, and make they look upon creating part of life. Therefore, building corresponding learning environment in which learners can have cooperative knowledge building is the question we must think over. Based on the existent studies, this dissertation discussed the KBC theory deeply and systematically, and by analyzing the mechanism of Knowledge Building in a community, it put forward the design principle and the forming elements of KBC under the network circumstance, and it also discussed the design on the support environment of KBC according to the advantages of Wiki. Proved by practices, the KBC is an effective learning organizing form which could promote the Individual Knowledge Building and the Cooperative Knowledge Building, while Wiki can provide good help to the Cooperative Knowledge Building, and bring KBC and Wiki together is a new try. Due to the technical ability of the author and time limit, this dissertation hasn't exploit the environment, and it has no corresponding experiment, so the support environment of KBC designed in this dissertation waits for the further amelioration. Whereas, this study has a certain production, so it could provide reference for the future study.
