| ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group work together to work out a new video coding standard-H.264/AVC. This new standard can save approximately a 50% bit rate for equivalent perceptual quality relative to the existing standards. Due to the advanced compression performance and the "network-friendly" nature, H.264 will be adopted over a broad variety of applications such as video telephone, broadcast, streaming services, storage and so on.H.264 encoder achieves better performances at the cost of a larger computing consumption. The paper will emphasis on research of Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation algorithm and the implementation of H.264 video encoder based on DM642 platform.In this paper, first introduces the technology of H.264 video CODEC, including intra prediction, inter prediction, integer DCT transform, entropy encoding and so on.Secondly, the paper analyses the technology of ME and MC, introduces the especial algorithm in H.264 encoder: tree structured motion compensation, sub-pixel motion vector and multiple reference frames.Thirdly, optimizes the MC and ME algorithm in H.264 based on PC platform from three ways: variable block size motion compensation, integer pixel motion estimation and sub-pixel motion estimation.Finally, the paper focuses on optimization and implementation of H.264 encoder based on DM642 platform. DM642 is a kind of DSP chip produced by TI which is especially used in image process. DM642 is based on C64x chips but appends many peripheral equipments and interface. Combining DM642 embedded system hardware characteristics, the paper optimizes the H.264 encoder and decreases the encoding time efficiently. In this process, many skills of software development based on DM642 are summarized. |
