As the service load of Internet grows explosively, the demand of bandwidth increases rapidly. Because of this trend, all-optical network becomes an important part of the next generation network. Among the key technologies for the all-optical network, Optical Burst Switch is a newly proposed method for building up an all-optical network with high performance and low costs. In addition, another hotspot in switching area is how to extend the MPLS(Multi-protocol Label Switching) to the OTN(Optical Transmission Net). That comes into the OLS (Optical Label Switching). The core technology of OLS is using the optical label to establish the transmission path for the data, so we can avoid the complex route management and improve the data transmission rate. Based on the characteristic of each technology, we can combine the OBS and OLS to form the LOBS.In this paper, the design and implementation of control interface module is studied. A control module, which is based on an embedded processor, is added on the current OBS network test bed. The processor provides a platform to run MPLS protocol on OBS network. This paper does plenty of research on the chip selection for processor and hardware design.The main part of this paper is focused on the design of the interface module. The MPLS protocol realizes the controlling of the OBS layer by this interface. By careful software design, we finally achieve this goal, the MPLS module can communicate with the OBS layer easily by the interface module.At last, the paper discussed the prospect of LOBS. The combination of the advanced OBS and MPLS brings Internet Protocol over Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing integrated model—Labeled Optical Burst Switching (LOBS). LOBS exerts the superiority of high intelligence in electronic processing and large capacity in photonic switching. It is an ideal optical switching scheme in future data network.
