With the development of semiconductor technology and electronic automatic design technology, the design of UPFC is developping continually. The improvement of microelectronic technology and semiconductor technology, and the integration level of integrated circuit multi-ply, as a result, a new design technology appears which is called SOPC technology. It integrates microprocessor, memory and peripheral controllers on one chip, and can programme the hardware system again. The technology is very flexible by means of FPGA. As a consequence, this paper will make use of this technology to design control system of UPFC refering to the other existent designs of UPFC.At first, the paper will introduce the background of UPFC develpment and detailed specify the operational principle and control mode of UPFC. On the basis, it selects sine pulse moderate mode by contrasting the features and implementation difficulty among all kinds of control mode. This control mode is mature and simple and used widely in industy. It mostly refers to the designs among the existent designs of UPFC, which are implemented by using micoprocessor. The design is feasible and simple, so it can be implemented easily by using SOPC technology through modifying the design.According to the features of SOPC technology, it introduces hardware system design flow and software system flow. It addresses how to design custom system component and how to construct a complete system by using system components in detaile. At last, accomplishing UPFC controller on evaluation board, and make it output control wave to reach its requirements. In other words, it should fulfill to keep up with its frequence with frequence of input signal, and be able to modify its magnitude and phase according to need.
