Industrial boilers in service at present have several severe problems such as small capacity, low efficiency, high energy consumption and causing severe pollution on environment. To equip with computer control system can greatly resolve the above-mentioned problems. However, it's impractical for those industry enterprises that have only small capacity boilers to equip with large whole set of distributed control systems(DCS). The control system they need should meet with the principle of"Reliable, Cheap, Simple and Meet the basic demands".After analyzing the operating status of industrial boilers in China, the application and significance of computer system used in the field of boiler controlling are introduced. Design methods of a simplified distributed control system based on industrial PC(IPC) are presented in detail. As an example, a system named Industrial Boiler Computer Control System(IBCCS) for a 10t/h coal-fired industrial steam boiler is developed, and its topological structure, database system and software are given. The software, which is developed with Delphi 6, consists of IBCCS-E running on the host computer and IBCCS-C running on the slave computer. Both IBCCS-E and IBCCS-C run under Windows 2000 operating system with SQL Server 2000 database. At the same time, the influences of optimization of database table index and data acquisition in multi-thread mode on the performance of the software system are discussed.In addition, parameter tuning method of PID controller is introduced. Furthermore, a simulation model of control system for industrial boiler has been created using Matlab/Simulink. Parameter tuning simulation experiment has been performed on this model. The response curves of key parameters are analyzed, and they can be used to guide the tuning in field work.IBCCS has the merits of stable performance, low cost, easy operating and good maintainability. After further improvement, it can be used for medium and small-sized industrial boilers.
