The application of video image processing technology is becomming more and more widespread .Many kinds of arithmetic of image processing are more mature and relative hardware technology is upgrading constantly. Generally speaking, there are three kinds of image processing system to implement the digital image processing algorithms. The main chips of the each system are DSP (Digital Signal Processor), ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) and FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array).In recent years, with the development of EDA (Electronic Design Automation) technology, SOPC (System_on Programmable Chips) based on FPGA has been becoming more and more popular. Specially, FPGA has the superiority in video image processing system because of its ability to process a great amount data, its high speed and good flexibility. So , this paper has conducted the research on video image processing system based on FPGA and SOPC technology.The paper introduces the structure and functional characteristics of Xilinx corporation FPGA , the SOPC development kit and design flow in chips. According to the relative knowledge of video signal, the video image processing IP core has been compiled and video image processing system has been constructed. The whole system takes FPGA as the core component , in which the PowerPC405 processor module is imbedded . The video decoder chip is initialized through IIC bus , and the system has realized the video signal of capturing, processing, storing and displaying.Finally, the system debugging is carried through .The experiment confirms that the system can work correctly and reliably. About ten percent of the LC of FPGA is consumed by the whole system, so the surplus LC can be used for more algorithms or other aspect applications.
