Network management is the tasks process of controlling a complex computer network, making it safe, efficient completing a job. A network management system (NMS) usually includes data acquisition, data processing, and then submitted to the regulators, may also include analysis the data and provides solutions. Currently the most widely used network management protocol is SNMP (Simple Network Management Progocol) and CMIP (Common Management Information Protocol). SNMP becomes industry standards, because it is very simple of achieving, understanding and debugging, which is well received by the broad support of many products.The Universal Network Management Platform is generally expensive, tedious operation, and most also need to be secondary development, Network Management System's shortcomings is too specific, limited to a particular model or a particular manufacturers of products, many manufacturers currently not be suitable for heterogeneous environments. Therefore, developing a campus network to the network management system is a very necessary thing. Network Monitor is an important component of the network management. This article is applicable to develop a campus network operation for the network condition monitoring systems. In view of most of the equipments on the campus on-line will support SNMP, so system platform is designed based on SNMP.SNMP management does the manage work through the network management software. one of the main functions of Network management software is to help network administrators manage the entire network to complete the work. network management software requires SNMP regular to collect agent important equipment information, the information collected will be used to establish that it is whether or not normal in the state for an independent network equipment, parts of the network or the entire operation of the network. SNMP Manager SNMP agent periodic inquiries received from the state of the equipment operation, configuration and performance information.SNMP use the self-trapping method(Trap-directed polling) to poll network equipment management. Under normal circumstances, network management workstations collect information by management equipment through polling agents in the, with figures on the console or graphics that way to show that such information to provide network equipment traffic analysis and management for working state network capabilities. When management equipment abnormal state, management agent immediately send wrong notice through SNMP by falling into a network management workstations. When a network equipment is resulted in a self-trapping, network administrators can use network management workstations to get state of the equipment, to obtain more information. The system development is to achieve by simple network management protocol SNMP and VB development tools. The system uses Web browser interface with ASP dynamic web page design techniques, lessons from the previous full of the various advantages of network management software, and has develop in Windows2000server platform in the network management software web, the whole system use components of all the Windows2000server.There are not copyright issues, and simple and practical.The System run background monitoring program, and regularly read the State Information Center switches, and write this information in the database management, network management can see the information processed through Web browsers into graphical, timely and accurate connect network running. The whole system reaches a basic purpose of our design.
