With the rapid development of embedded technology and computer network, the application of communicatin control system using real time operating system and communicatin processor is becoming a hot point in the field of data communication. MPC860 is just a kind of communicatin processor which has good performance and supports many procotols.The operating system VxWorks is stable and has good real time quality.Combining them in communication system is a good design.In a communication control system, Board Support Package (BSP) is an important component.As the core software to perform the boot procedure of operating system and drive hardware and device, BSP must be concise, efficient, reliable and easy to port.So it is a significative subject to apply and research the BSP based on MPC860 and VxWorks.We discuss the function of BSP and compare BSP to other kinds of system firmware.By doing this, we emphasize the characteristic of BSP and direct the development and of BSP. Based on the project"Integrated Communication System", we design the system hardware and explain the mechanism of our BSP according to the architecture of MPC860 and VxWorks. We expound main points of the design of the BSPP. It is a good reference for other applications based on MPC860 and VxWorks and valuable for directiong thee improvement of performance of system firmware. By using Background Debug Mode (BDM), we desing a method for debugging and conclude some points that can be used to improve system performance.
