Wireless sensor network is composed of a large number of distributed sensor nodes that are densely deployed either inside the phenomenon or very close to it. These sensor nodes organize themselves into a multi-hop wireless network and cooperate to deliver collecting data to sink nodes.IPv6 protocol is the next generation Internet standard, which reserves many successful characters of IPv4 and provides some more powerful function in order to meet new requirement. IPv6 protocol successes to solve many problems such as IP address scarcity.Connecting WSN with IPv6 network is important either to the former's development or to enlarging the latter's operation. This thesis is based on the National Development and Reform Commission CNGI R&D/industrialization and experimentation/application demonstration project - "IPv6 wireless sensor networks nodes", focusing on the WSN gateway based on IPv6 design and implement.1. Based on the research of the factors which affect the connecting WSN with IPv6 network, the gateway design idea including virtual IPv6 network, energy saving and security are presented. Besides, the key issues are introduced, such as answering substitute, querying inosculation, user certification and so on.2. With the analysis of the need for ALL-IP interconnection method, the structure, service type and data processing of WSN in ALL-IP mode are presented firstly. Then, combined ND with WSN, how to use ND protocol in WSN for address auto configuration is introduced. After performance comparison of TCP Reno and TCP SACK in WSN, improvement for TCP SACK algorithms is present. Simulation results in NS-2 shows that TCP SACK performs better with the improvement.3. For the sake of saving energy, normal forwarding modes and energy-saving forwarding mode are designed base on the characters of WSN energy consuming. The gateway for connecting WSN with IPv6 network is also implemented completely. Debugging and testing show that with two forwarding mode above, the gateway works well and efficiently.
