| With the enrollment scales expanding year by year in high education institutions, the source of students is becoming fiercer and fiercer in competition. Enrolling new students has already become the qualified lifeline of universities. Along with the popularization of enrolling online, informationization of enrolling new students and formalization of data has offered the good environment to such respects as treatment,statistics and utilizing of data. The urgent demands of most universities are to effectively analyse the previous data with the purpose of digging out available informations to provide necessary hints regarding the students'decision on major selection. Jinli Econonical Management Cadre College, as the minor-size developing institution, is facing the increasing pressure in competitions among other contemporaries. Thus conducting systemetic, regular analysis on the existing data is taking priority in developing workable strategies so as to grab superior position in the fierce competition in the first time.This paper begins with the relevant research backgrounds and the developing situations in such technology as Data Warehouse,OLAP (Online Analysis Processing) by presenting detailed introductions on related conceptions, systemetic structure and properly fulfulling methods, followed by study on models of metadata; designing Data Warehouse according to the need of theme annalysis; building the multidimentional data collection to perform analysis on the relevant multidimentional modeling; designing and completing the OLAP by adopting MOLAP (multidimentional Online Analysis Processing). The system adopts Data Warehouse solutions and DTS (Data Transform Services) to extract, transform and load the admission data; and establishes the theme multidimentional data collection in accordance to relevant dimensions in asteristik models under Analysis Manager. In the course of dealing with multidimentional data collection, the better choice is to take the related dimensions into consideration as much as possible in order both to have more flexibility in the operations of slicing, dicing, rotating and drilling, and to have a wider range of analysis, to meet the various demands of the admission administration. With the comprehensive utilities of dimensions, fictitious dimentions, measures and calculating members in creating the OLAP of major selection subject, the average enrollment rates are produced after poly-calculating process and certain individuals are given priority at different levels. Meanwhile such operations as sliding and rotating in accordance to the admission years and preference towards science or arts are in favor. Users can succeed in displaying the results of OLAP services analysis process through Excel Pivot Table.On the analysis of the last three years'data, combined with the employment of Data Warehouse and OLAP, the enrollment data warehouse is set up to generalize the themes and design multidimensional models; MS SQL SERVER 2000 is applied to perform the multidimensional analysis concerning the themes, and Excel Pivot Table is available in exposing the conclusions in the user ends. All these are to provide positive reference or evdence for the admission administration in respects of strategies planning and majors setup (categories, number limits). Under the research of this, some beneficial practice are expected to be achieved in the actual operation of Data Warehouse and Online Analysis Processing. |
