The Research And Construction Of Campus IM System Based On Jabber

With the rapid development of Internet technology, Instant Messaging system becomes more and more powerful. IM system attracts a lot of users and brings great convenience to them because of its interactive communication style. Jabber is one of the most successful technologies in IM field. IETF set it as the standard protocol, and the protocol is named as XMPP. Now the majority users of IM systems are personal users, but enterprise/campus users will make up of the majority soon. Jabber will definitely have a bright future in enterprise/campus applications since XMPP is a stream control transmission protocol based on XML which makes it very suitable for the transmission of structured message.Using Jabber technology, the subject built a campus IM system. First, the thesis discusses the theory of Jabber technology, and then gives an overall architecture of the system. Campus network has a lot of characteristics, for example, it must be stable, concurrent, secure, scalable, and user-friendly. To meet these requirements, the thesis presents a detailed solution. Based on the design method of common control, the system developed a common control with GUI to parse XMPP. The control includes some critical IM functions, for example, contact list, subscription mechanism, message transmission etc. It is widely used in the client-side implementation. In addition, the thesis discusses the server-sided management system. The server-sided management system could help administrators manage campus IM system more effectively. At the end of the thesis, there is an expectation of further study in this subject.
