The starting point of the thesis is testing the functionality of HSDPA which is a new technology of WCDMA network. Through doing the HSDPA testing cases, the key performance indicators of HSDPA were introduced briefly. While testing the HSDPA throughput case, the methodology of solving the throughput problem was raised, the troubleshooting experience was also got by doing the cases. In addition, the case about HSDPA packet scheduling was executed. Different packet scheduling schemes was piloted on the trial network and the test result was recorded. Finally the network performance was analyzed by different packet scheduling schemes. So far, there are only quite limited studies about packet scheduling of HSDPA network in our country and there is no corresponding reports about packet scheduling testing on trail network.HSDPA is the term of High Speed Downlink Packet Access, which was published in the Release 5 of 3GPP. The purpose of the brand new solution is about to enhance the downlink speed of packet service. It is consisted of some of the new technologies such as shortened TTI, adaptive modulation and coding, hybrid automatic repeat request, optimized packet scheduling schemes. Right now in the mainland of China, there's no commercial lunched 3G network. The government of China hasn't allowed the bid of 3G network license. However, government had made the blueprint of 3G research. In the near future, 3G network would be spread out in the whole mainland. In the initial phase, there must be quite a lot of technical problems. Discussing of how to solve the problems is not only beneficial to the network operators' investment, but also help them to save the cost and gain more profit. HSDPA throughput problem is one of the classical cases which affect the end user's satisfaction. One user's throughput can really impact the whole throughput of the system The main works and contribution of the thesis are:1. Regarding to the HSDPA throughput problem, use the 3G network structure as a digging tool, which associated by some testing equipment and testing methods, the methodology of solving the HSDPA problem is brought forward. It was proved to be efficient;2. During the HSDPA testing, the different of packet scheduling schemes were tested. The data of test result were also recorded. It's a better proof to the HSDPA theory;3. The next enhanced HDPA technology is 10~15 codes HSDPA. The maximum throughput is theoretically 14.4 Mbps and 10.8Mbps in practice. By then, the througlput problem would be a confusing one in pilot, the methodology from this thesis could be still applied. Additionally, the new packet scheduling schemes will be put into practice in the near future and it will improve the network performance.
