With the development of network technology, the transferring speed of network has been accelerated. Thus, we have more and more new applications based on the Internet. Among all these applications, the electronic data interchange(EDI) is a developing information technology which have great infulence, and now it has become one of most important means for the competing of the international trade.Extensive markup language provide an opening-standard for the safety andefficient electronic commerce. Because improving the weakness of the traditional EDI, it brings the small-medium enterprise into the electronic commerce market. The XML-structured data can be separated from the business rule and theexpression form, expediently for the data exchange and data process. So the XML is regarded as the standard of data exchange when it just appeared.XML provides an excellent data interface for the native MIS and the application system based on web, but due to the technology of the native XML database is immature,most of data are stored in the relational database, So it becomes the foundation of the application of XML in data exchange to solve the corresponding relation between XML data and relational data.First and foremost, this thesis analyzes the weakness of traditional data interchange and expatiates the course of the XML's produce and development, analyzes advantages of XML when it applies on data exchange. Then, relates XML standard, including XML standard system, XML data schema, XML data mode and program interface, at the same time, introduces theory of data exchange. Next, this thesis emphasizes on the transforming between the XML data and the relational data and gives the instances and transforming algorithm respectively base on patulous SQL and RXL. Finally, using XML as a strategy, with ADO and DOM, this thesis designs a data exchange mode.
