Petroleum Rigs and pipe handling system play a very important role in the process of drilling.The drilling process can proceed smoothly depends on the rational design of the mechanical structure and the control system.There are so many equipment in the marine platform that independently control not only cost highly but also difficult to control and manage the decentralized equipment centrally.This lead to great waste on material and human resource.Based on the drilling rig and pipe handling system designed on our own and with the application of PLC technology and PROFIBUS Fieldbus technology,the paper implemented centralized control and manage of the rig and pipe handling system.In addition ,study and explore PROFIBUS network expansion to link other equipment.The paper first introduced the the mechanical structure and the hydraulic system of drilling rig and pipe handling system,the design objective,action and the workflow of the mechanical system; Introduced the action of various excecutive components of the hydraulic system,by the way of PLC control to complete their movement,use sensors to achieve their testing and assure the system running smoothly.Then described the whole Fieldbus control system,chose a S7-400 PLC to be a bus-master to centralized control the various stations,chose S7-300 PLC as a bus-slave to control the drilling rig and pipe handling system.Completed hardware and software design and communication program design of the PROFIBUS fieldbus control system with Step7 V5.3 software.Based on the program in the S7-300 station, the rig and the pipe handling system can work in four modes:manual, single-cycle,single-cycle and continuous.Completed the automatic drilling control system design.Based on the mathematic model of automatic drilling system,compeleted the program design with PID control technology and fuzzy control technology.Designed the human-machine interface of the rig control system on the basis of the WinCC software.It can display the rig's status to the driller with indicative lights or figures, which can help the driller do the correct decision-making and can reduce the driller's fatigue,and can store the important working parameters in the industry computer, and provide a convenient and efficient way to backup critical data.Finally,expand the entire marine platform at the site of the PROFIBUS Fieldbus network , introduced the access of third-party equipment which support PROFIBUS agreement,as well as AS-I bus and Industrial Ethernet connectivity.
