Research On Semantic Retrieval Based On Ontology

With the rapid development of the technology of network, most of information provided to user is mostly not structured, but also unstructured. All kinds of information appear rapidly, the complexion of complicated data resources which are in different format, different times, and different application is formed step by step. It is a valuable question for discussing that how to set up an expression mechanism of kinds of information and build a uniform plat to deal with and retrieve information, so practical application of information could be satisfied. The traditional retrieval based on the keywords matching has the limitation of efficiency. Users are not satisfied because of the precision and the recall being low.A new retrieval method is provided by Semantic Web and ontology, through which the limitation of the traditional retrieval system can be resolved. At present time, information retrieval based on ontology is the hot pot of the research and the application of ontology.(1) This paper analyzes the problem and disadvantage of traditional retrievals in web, and the paper makes a deeply research on the concepts, modeling primitives, describing languages, constructing methods, constructing tools of ontology and analyzes the semantic ability of the OWL. Furthermore, a framework of intelligent information retrieval system based on ontology is proposed. Key processing techniques based on ontology have been also deeply studied in this paper.(2) A semantic annotation method based on ontology for web application is proposed for supporting user browsing activities on the web space. This method supports that users can search the relevant information effectively in browsing semantically heterogeneous web space.By applying ontology technology to information retrieval field, the problem of precision and recall that exist in classical keywords retrieval is resolved in information expression lay. At last, the summary and expectation are made, deficiency and aspects need to be improved are also pointed out. The future of application of ontology in information retrieval field is discussed.
