Mobile Ad Hoc network has some advantages such as conveniently and quickly network setup, high reliability, strong flexibility, without depending on any fixed supporting infrastructure. These advantages make the applications of Ad Hoc network very extensive. With the appearance of numerous intelligentized and miniaturized wireless devices and smart household terminals, their requirements of information share and data exchange accelerate the development of Ad Hoc network and make it to be one of the current research hotspots. The research of power control in MAC layer for Ad Hoc networks are focused in this dissertation. We introduce the conceptions and characteristics of Ad Hoc network, then analyze the research actuality of power control. We propose two new power control MAC protocols which are used in single channel and dual channel MAC protocol respectively, we make some simulation in GloMoSim.Although single channel protocols are used widely, the power control single channel protocols can not do well in improving throughput performance and reducing the power consumption at present. We propose a new single channel power control protocol. The data packet and control packet in the neighborhood of communicating nodes are transmitted separately by the means of time division multiplex. The receivers also join in the procedure of power control. The simulation shows the method can reduce the energy expense, extend the life of network and improve the throughput. The dual channel protocols can resolve the problem of hidden-terminal and exposed-terminal, so the throughput of network is improved comparing with single channel protocol. A new dual channel power control protocol with busy, tone for Ad Hoc network is proposed. The protocol adopts busy tone to achieve the protection of ACK packet which is not resolved in existing protocols. The simulation also reveals this protocol works well compared with existing protocols. Finally, we review the whole paper above, and point out the problems of power control which are required resolving in the future.
