Research On Extension Of Network Management Functions And System Realization

With the rapid development of communication technology, the extension of network scale and the increment of network complexity, the requests of network management system become more and more high. The available MIB can not satisfy the needs of network management. To a great extent, a lot of the expression and provision of network characteristic depend on the ability and quality of network management system.The research topic of this paper is extension of network management functions and the realization of network management system. In many application scenes, it is need to gain the information about host system and processes, while the available MIB can not give these information, so it is need to extend the recent network management functions. That is the background of this thesis.For realizing the actual application requirements, the extension of network management functions and its implementation are studied deeply. Firstly, the five functions of network management system and the basic model of network management are introduced. And then the knowledage of SNMP is analyzed. The management information structure,management information base and the SNMP protocol are discussed mainly.After that, the research and realization of the extension of network management functions are discussed. By the analysis of applied network management functions,the request of the extension of network management functions should be realized. For best managing the host resources and implementation of the extension of the network management functions, the host resources MIB and the private MIB are studied in detail. The mechanism of SNMP extension agent in Windows and the need and feasibility of extension of network management functions are analyzed. Aimed at the defect of the recent network management, the extension content needed to be extend is analyzed and studied. Finally, the realization process of the extension of network management function is introduced, and a new extension agent is designed and realized. This thesis not only implements the extension of network management, but also shows the skill of extension SNMP agent under Windows, in order to the developers can focus on the privated MIB programming and the design of the special program of extension agent. The combination of the platform of network management and the platform of security management is also discussed.This paper is focusing on the introduction of the realization process of major functions of network management system, namely the extension of the management information tree, design of MIB browser, and the realization of configuration managemenmt and performance management. The development kit-SNMP4J is also discussed. The extension experiment results show that the agent and the network management function can be extended expediently by using the extension agent method provided by Windows. This paper makes use of Windows API functions to get the process and system information and put them into a branch of MIB tree to accomplish the extension of network management function. This extension consummates the MIB information and strengthens the network management function. In addition, using the MIB browser,configurement and performance management of this thesis, one can manage the network conveniently and improve the quality of network management.
