The microstrip antenna has many merits, such as small volume , light weight, low profile, easy to be placed on the surface of carrier, the simple fabrication, the low cost, easy to be integrated with the active device and circuit. Because of these merits , the microstrip antenna has been taken seriously. But if we want to obtain the characteristics such as the high gain, the wave beam scanning and beam control, we must to compose the micro-strip radiating element to be an array antenna to realize.The present paper introduced the elementary knowledge of the microstrip antenna, circular polarization technology and wideband technology, and the related content of the microstrip array antenna. Based on this, this paper has designed two microstrip array antennas separately: the UHF RFID reader antenna and the maritime satellite communication antenna. These two kind of antenna's polarization mode respectively be linear polarization and circular polarization. Because the latter one requests the wide frequency band, therefore this paper used the stacked microstrip patch to stretch the frequency band, but the former only used the single layer patch. In this paper, we first carries on the preliminary calculation according to the classics transmission line theory to elementary antenna's size and the parameter, and has designed a group plan, selected the distance between the array element, and design the feed network of the array antenna . Then this paper used separately the ADS simulation software that based on the moment method and the simulation software Ansoft HFSS that based on finite element electromagnetic field simulated two antenna's design parameters, and carried on the optimization, obtained antenna's size and antenna's optimum design parameter and S11 and radiation pattern characteristic parameters. Accord to the simulation result, after achieving the performance requirement; finally this paper carried on the actual making to the antenna, and test the antenna with the microwave vector network analyzer , gave the S11 and input impedance, there is a good agreement between the simulation result and the test testing result. The finally chapter summarized the hole paper, and aimed at the question which in this design gives the improvement plan.
