As China becomes the third biggest productive country and the biggest car consumptive country. Intellectualization of LPR system is improving constantly and is widely applied in expressway,urban traffic, and so on. So the performance and the cost become the critical factors of LPR system. Parallelism of FPGA provides the basic factor for the parallel processing. In addition, The price of FPGA become low as the development of semiconductor technology. We can realize high integration level designs with low cost,such as multipath parallel LPR system.In the backdrop of the advantage of FPGA and the project of multipath parallel LPR system,the paper includes key algorithms research and implementation of LPR process,such as binarization, character segment,character normalization and character recognition with the known conditions of orientation grayscale image and BP Neural Networks.In order to come up with the design guideline,the design tool is System generator and the board is vII_Pro of xilinx company. The paper adopts parallel array and pipelining construction to realize the parallel model with digging parallelism of LPR algorithms. Through the debug of timing analysis,the model meets the timing. With the optimization of critical path,it's proved that the system can reach higher frequency. Then the design is downloaded to the board and the result meets design guideline.FPGA has large numbers of parallel resource,so it can realize the multipath parallel LPR system in one board. With the constrast of the style of using several parallel processors,FPGA saves lots of cost.
