VR (Virtual Reality) has had a growing impact on many applications. It refers Computer Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, Psychology, Physiology and other subjects, and has been used widely in many fields. Real-time display is the major technique of VR. The key method of the real-time display is LOD(Level of Details). In this thesis, some methods are presented to improve LOD and produce high quality approximations of polygonal models.QEM(Quadric Error Metrics) is an effective triangular mesh simplification algorithm about LOD. But the algorithm will lost some features after processing. The thesis proposes an enhanced method to improve the algorithm based on QEM. The method can achieve much better decimation results.The thesis still mentions progressive meshes and BSP(Binary Space Partitioning Tree) for improving the display frame rate. Progressive meshes algorithm is an important dynamic LOD algorithm, which can improve the enhanced algorithm based on QEM. The total number of the triangle meshes can be controlled with BSP. The Experimental results show that the method can get better display frame rate.
