The front end preprocessor is an important part of the radar receiver, mainly used for receiving IF signal and pulse compression. To deal with various signal forms, various working frequency, and various bandwidths, general utility and software programmability are required.The hardware performance by software-oriented way is the main technological idea in Software Radio techniques. Based on the parallel feature and programmability, FPGA becomes an ideal platform for implementing high-speed real-time processing in radar front end.Applying Software Radio techniques, the paper presents a scheme to implement the radar front end preprocessing on a single FPGA chip, with the radar signals digitally receiving and the pulse compression. Based on theory analysis, modeling and simulation, the paper presents the implementation method for IF digitization, poly-phase filter and pulse compression, and introduces FPGA's features, the related development tools and the digital system development method. With time-sharing method, the paper proposes a new structure of poly-phase filter which can realize integral ratio sample rate conversion with no affects on real-time ability of signal processing.The paper realizes the scheme on DSP Development KIT StratixII EP2S60, and simulates the system with DSP Builder, SignalTap and ModelSim, which verifies the validity of the scheme.
