The conformal phased array antenna (CPAA) for"Communications on the Move"discussed in this thesis comes from the advanced research programs of the tenth five-year plan. This thesis investigates CPAAs which could keep communication between vehicle-vehicle stations as well as vehicle-airplane stations. The modeling complexity is simplified by using the wire-grid model (WGM), by which a continuous metallic surface is approximated with the equal area rule (EAR). Quasi-cylindrical conformal array antennas (QCCAAs) with different geometric parameters are investigated, the relationships between radiation pattern and QCCAA's radius as well as the element spacing are obtained, and the scanning properties are studied, the effects of the rectangular and triangular grid array on patterns are also calculated. The effects of parasitic elements on the characters of elements in the cylindrical conformal array antenna (CCAA) are studied; the array impedance, pattern, directivity and scanning performance are simulated. An 8×8 dipole array is fabricated and measured, the measured results agree well with the simulated ones. MoM in conjunction with the asymptotic waveform evaluation (AWE) technique is studied. The numerical results are in good agreement with the results achieved by the MoM computation at each frequency, and the computational efficiency is improved considerably.
