In recent years China Unicom has continued to improve the GSM network quality, the subscribers account has grown rapidly, based on 2G GSM networks, the SMS, Hyun-ling, and the other value-added services have been developed in high-speed, which brings China Unicom a wealth of customer-serving experience and abundant source of profit. Therefore, China Unicom's GSM networks hold advantages, and it is also necessary to provide high-speed GPRS services for users.There are a lot of possible options for the GPRS networks designing and coming into existence. This research integrates China Unicom's GSM network to the actual situation, analyzes the merits and drawbacks of different projects, and discusses the overall arrangement of new SGSN and GGSN in centralization or decentralization ways. This article provides references for the construction of the core GPRS networks of China Unicom.After the initial deployment being completed, we adopt different source configuration environments and educe a propositional option of system environment setting through contrasting differentiate areas tests and analyzing performance Statistic.We also discusses some method about the core-network optimization, and optimizes the networks security,PDP activating success rate and accounting maneuver. The research enhances the reliability and stability of core networks, improves the quality of networks' serving and maintenance.As an intermediate product in the process from 2G to 3G of mobile communication, GPRS technology has its own advantages. But how to accomplish the process and evolve it into 3G, we still need farther investigations.
