With the high-end television's speediness development and the digital television technique's research and application, the flaws caused by interlaced scan in traditional analog television, such as color-crawling, image flicker and fast-moved object's boundary blur and zigzag, are more and more obvious. However, because of the economic development, analog television will still take its place in the TV market during a long period. Therefore the conversion of interlaced scan to progressing scan, which is de-interlacing, is an important part of current television production, such as digital video post-processing.The study and simulate of the video form transformation's de-interlacing algorithm are based upon digital processing flat panel HDTV system plan of the Genesis's FLI8541 video processing chip. The thesis introduces the FLI8541 video processing chip function, the software's operation used by the plan, as well as the front-end input function module and video form processing module. The thesis mainly analyzes the differentiation between interlaced scan and progressive scan, illuminates the issue of de-interlacing. It suggests different deinterlacing technology according to the diversity of the signal source. The reverse 3-2/2-2Pulldown technology are adopted by the film program source, but linear de-interlacing algorithm, nonlinear de-interlacing algorithm and motion compensation de-interlacing algorithm are used by video program source. The author studies and simulates the television pattern's de-interlacing algorithm with Matlab.The improved MADi (Motion Adaptive de-interlacing) algorithm is proposed after analyzing and studing the existing de-interlacing algorithm. The new MADi algorithm improved both on motion detection algorithm and interpolation algorithm. The motion detection algorithm is not bases on the adjacent two fields, but bases on the sequence three fields. The integration median algorithm is used by interpolation between fields. An edge orientation based on interpolation algorithm is applied during intra-field interpolation. According to the result of motion detection, edge detection is performed on the moving region pixels. The moving region is further classified into two areas that are subjected to different appropriate interpolation methods. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can produce high quality.
