The Mobile IP makes it possible for the mobile node to visit any Intranet and Interact at any time in whatever place,and other mobile nodes can communicate with it very conveniently. Inherited all the advantages of IPv4,IPv6 is designed based on the new characteristics in IPv6. But in the actual application of IPv6,there is a problem needs to be solved,that is how to provide satisfactory services for its users,especially some real time system.Based on our experience,we fred that one of the factors that influence the quality of the service is the handoff delay caused by the movement of its users,which has been studied by many scholars.And they have put up many solutions,among which FMIPv6 is the most mature one. The main idea of this program is to register in advance by the link layer mechanism,and by keeping communication by the former network before the new transfer is finished.This solution lessened the handoff delay,but it increases the signal expense.Furthermore,it hasn't made any progress in Home Register and Correspondent Node Register.So the ultimate purpose of this paper is to improve the FMIPv6.This paper covers the following issues:1.Researches on MIPv6This paper introduces the technical terms and the message format involved in IPv6,and analyzes the working principles,including operations such as MD,CoA configuration,and CoA update,etc.2.Researches on FMIPv6Based on the researches on IPv6,this paper analyzes FMIPv6,including the introduction of new technical terms,new message format and its working principles.And by analyzing the working principles of FMIPv6,we found out its shortcomings.3.Proposal of new handoff programWe put forward a new handoff program that is HL2_UP.We made proper improvement on the problems existed in MIPv6 and FMIPv6,andwe made some imitation experiments on MIPv6, FMIPv6,and L2-UP.The results indicate that HL2_UP have less handoff delay and packet loss rate.
