Recently, with the rapid development of the technics of Internet and mobility, laptop computers have increased people's mobility needs. People want to access Internet while moving, to keep the communication continuous, and to get different services. In order to support the mobility of mobile nodes, Mobile IP workgroup was set up in Internet Engineering Task Force, who published proponent standard of Mobile IP which has two versions now: Mobile IPv4 based on IPv4 (RFC3220), and Mobile IPv6 based on IPv6 (RFC3775).MIPv6 is a combination between Next Generation Internet and mobile communication. Mobility support is in urgent need for Internet service, and mobile communication also requires data and multimedia service emergently. The combination brings many new challenges and opportunities on the real-time application in mobile Internet. However, Mobile IP aims macro-mobility more than micro-mobility. It supposes that a mobile node will stay at the visited place for a time before leaving. During the Mobile Node handovers to another network, the correspondence will be interrupted and the QoS will descend because of long delay and high packets loss. This is fatal to real-time applications, such as Voice over IP. Users can discover the disconnection of communication expressly. Therefore, reducing the handover delay and packet-loss rate in Mobile IP become the most important task. The handover technique of Mobile IPv6 is one of the hottest research fields in mobile Internet. IETF solves the problem that provides mobile users seamless roaming. The technology of Fast Handover can save time in handover process, the technology of Smooth Handover can reduce the handover delay time and packets-loss mount. In MIPv6, when mobile node moves, it must send binding update packets to home agent and corresponding nodes in order to keep intrinsic communication not interrupted. If mobile node often changes its location, and there are many corresponding nodes, there will be many binding update packets in Internet. It is proved that mobile node often moves within a domain, so IETF puts forward Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 mobility management (HMIPv6). It can reduce the amount of binding update packets, and it can hide the location of the mobile node.At first, this paper presents the protocols of IPv6 and Mobile IPv6 and the handover technologies of MIPv6. Secondly, the paper discusses and analyses the technology of Fast Handover, Smooth Handover and Hierarchical Mobile IPv6. Compared to FMIPv6 and HMIPv6, the paper proposed a new handover Fast Handover mechanism for MIPv6, Fast-handover for Mobile IPv6 with Hierarchical Management (F-HMIPv6). Finally, NS2 simulation platform and simulation environment are illustrated. Through simulation data, we can think that F-HMIPv6 mechanism is feasible and we should do more in the future.
