In consideration of the real condition in industry,an Management Information System(MIS) for the Building Material Inspection Center in Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology has been developed.In the process,the concept of development,basic principles and methods in the structure and system development for management information system were applied.This development is invaluable in practice:it enables staff of the Inspection Station to communicate with each other faster and on time,makes information management a reality and improves its level of management in the Inspection Center.According to the current condition of this Center,browser/server structure is applied in this system,and full information management in the Center has been achieved.This developed system can serve in LAN platform,and also can execute the functions such as consignation,admission fee charging,original data recording,test data calculation,examination and endorsement from leaderships,report organization,report printing,etc.,based on WAN platform.Characteristics of this developed system are as follows:(1) Brower/server,instead of traditional Client/server,was applied in the development process.This application makes development more convenient and effective,and enables more than ten people to cooperate in this developing process.Due to the various layers of the B/S structure,maintenance workload is highly reduced.(2) ASP(Active Server Pages),ACCESS and Dreamweaver were applied in the system.Due to its many functions and strong technical support,flexibility and efficiency were improved.(3) According to the actual condition of the Center,MIS for the Building Material Station is divided into several sub-systems such as management staff system, client system,financial staff system and laboratory staff system.Each staff's authority is strictly limited which helps to improve the safety of the system, This system has passed the trial run in the cement group of the Building Material Inspection Station in XAUAT.The trial has shown that the system has met the requirement of design,will make paper-less building material inspection a reality, with good interface and will enable convenient operation and maintenance.
