Design Of High Speed Signal Processing Card Based On PCI Bus Using MPC8541

With the development of network communication technology, the embedded system which is based on communication processor and network processor is widely used. Nowadays, network communication technology for data signal processing speed and bandwidth has higher requirements, development of high performance signal processing equipments has important application prospects in the field of communication networks. Based on this point, in this paper, design of the high speed signal processing card based on the MPC8541 which using the PowerQUICCIII series CPU produces by Freescale, it's provided with the PCI bus plug-and-play and MPC8541's high-speed real-time processing capabilities.MPC8541 is an advanced network and communications processors, which is the core of the signal processing card. MPC8541 has excellent programming and scalability, after design the schematic, it can increase the software modules to enhance the function of the system. MPC8541 processor architecture is detailed introduction, the interface circuit module of memory, PCI bus, Ethernet, UART, I~2C is designed.In terms of PCI bus, PCI bus architecture is detailed introduction, including PCI bus Characteristics, signal the definition of bus commands, data transmission protocol, read and write timing.In the Windows system, hardware devices need the driver. in the paper, the driver principle and several drive-driven tools are introduced, and development methodology of using the Windriver development tool is detail described.The high speed signal processing card is designed the schematic and PCBlayout using Cadence's OrCAD / Allegro software, and through the testing, all the features of the design are meeted the requirements. In the FPGA system configuration, the clock procedures and control procedures are compiled by VHDL.In this paper, the high speed signal processing card of PCI bus based on MPC8541 has passed the hardware design, software driver development, functional test verification, which has already applicated in the network communication.
