| Chinese scholars agree in their existing academic publications, essays and books alike, that American media are primarily negative on their China reports, giving priority to perspectives concerning China-US relations, China's economic development, and problems cropping up in China's domestic development. Based on the lexical expressions in the China reports in The New York Times (July to December 2008), this essay attempts to prove the validity of the solid opinion towards the China related reports from the American media, by analyzing statistically the preference of American media's focus on China. Probing into the lexical expressions in the China-related reports, the paper singles out the characteristics of journalistic vocabulary which may shed light to China's English-language media in terms of improving the writing skills, including the tactics in expressing opinions and attitudes. |
