In recent years, as a new little-range wireless communication technology, ZigBee has been attracting more and more attentions. ZigBee technology, based on IEEE802.15.4 standard, is a limited range, low-complexity, low cost, low power consumption, two-way wireless communication technology. Currently, in the fields of industrial controls, home network and automation, building automation, consumer electronics and wireless sensor network, ZigBee has been used widely and will be probably one of the main technologies of wireless communication. At the same time, the improved wireless local area nework (WLAN) has been changing the ways of our work and life. As one means of Internet access, Wireless LAN access points (AP) are starting to be deployed in public hot spots, such as airports, hotels, cafes and parks.With the rapid development of computer and network technology, the Application of embedded system has penetrated every field of our work and life. And the embedded product, including handset, PDA, and MP4 etc., can be seen everywhere. There is one saying in IT field that the embedded technique is the greatest invention after PC and Internet.In this thesis, based on the project request and combined with the techniques above, we design and develop one embedded gateway for the protocol conversion between wireless ZigBee network and wireless WiFi network. Firstly, there is a detailed introduction of wireless ZigBee network and wireless local area network in the article. And then, combined the required functions, we have an analysis of every handware module and complete the corresponding hardware design. In the end, we specify the software-development environment of embedded gateway and the transplant of embedded Linux. Based on these, the core software development is completed successfully, including the driver development of wireless ZigBee coordinator module and server&client Application development of embedded gateway.
