Passive optical Network (PON) is a kind of optical network system that can access voice, data, CATV by ONU in user's home and all information is transmitted in optical fiber transmission technique from user port to central office terminal. PON can offer much bandwidth, strengthen the transparency of the network for data format, rate, wavelength and agreements, relax requirements to the environmental conditions and electricity, and simplify maintenance and installation. EPON is one of the final solution to access the ultimate means of the last kilometer. 1 engaged in related work in the telecommunications industry, so need to develop a thorough understanding of the EPON System Technique, and therefore select this topic as a research.The thesis has introduced technological principle and basic composition of system of EPON and development briefly at first. Then from definition of EPON system, we illuminate Structure of EPON system and operation Principle, up and down frame, Analyze the characteristics and key techniques of EPON.Then analyzed in detail the characteristics of the design obout Dynamic bandwidth allocation, the Mutile-ponit control Protocol, and how to design the network management system.The thesis introduced a solution to offer a service to the final Uesr that use the EPON technological principle, such as the TDM over EPON.and how to offer the QoS.
