Now the Broadcast&television network is no longer limited to theone-way transmission of traditional television programmes. With thedevelopment of digitalized communication, the Fuzhou Broadcast&television network has to extend business into disparate fields.Especially in recent years, because of the rapid development of broadbandservices and interactive television services, the construction of thenetwork platform is required more demanding. In recent years, we haverebuilded the HFC bidirectional network basing on CMTS+Cable Modemtechnology. Since downstream bandwidth is limited, constructiontechnology is highly required, expanded potential is small, thedevelopment of this business has been limited.Ethernet Passive Optical Network is a new technology for theimprovement plan of HFC bidirectional network. This technology is widelyused in telecommunication networks. In the Broadcast&television network,this technology is appreciated by the continuous improvement of standardsand equipment in recent years.In the first part, the current status and development of EPONtechnology at home and abroad are reviewed. In the second part, the networkstructure, the layered model, the function and principle of every layeris introduced, then it introduce Multipoint control protocol (MPCP) andLogic Link Identifier (LLID) at Data Link Layer. In the third part, somekey technologies of communication at Data Link Layer are analysis indetail, including synchronization and ranging, automatic registrationfor ONU, dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA). In the fourth part, thedissertation gives a summary about the development status of FuZhouBroadcast&television network, then analyzes the feasibility of the EPONsystem based on the principles, objectives and supporting equipment formaking up the network. In the fifth part, based on the existing network,it gives a detailed solution used EPON technology, thenanalyze the testof different supporting equipment. In the sisth part, it makes analysisand improvement of reliability, security for the formation of EPONsystem used network management.This article carries out preparatory work for the HFC bidirectionalnetwork. The main contribution of the article is giving a test and analysisfor EPON supporting equipment based on different technology, and givinga solution for transferring smoothly from Cable Modem technology to EPONtechnology.
