| CMTS network is the access network part of cable TV broadband network, which includes CMTS, CM, and HFC network. CMTS network management system monitors the overall CMTS network running, gets the running status of CMTS, and monitors the communication between CMTS and CM. Adapter is a subsystem of CMTS network management system. It supports the communication protocols and information models of both CMTS network management interface and NBI in CMTS network management system. Adapter does some translation between these two communication protocols, converts the information model in CMTS MIB to adapter database, and more important, it provides network management services directly to CMTS. Adapter is introduced to provide network management service to multiple-vendor CMTS network.This paper first analysis communication protocols and information models of CMTS network management interface and network management system NBI, as well as the typical adapter application, to generalize the functional requirement. It then proposes a framework designation of adapter, which comprises general adapter functions in the framework and leaves data communication with CMTS MIB to the application part. This adapter applies asynchronous task model into direct interacting with CMTS, to abstract more general functions in the framework. In this way, this designation is trying to minimize the impact of difference in CMTS from multiple-vendor. There are 5 parts in adapter: message module, polling module, business logic module, device communication module and an additional trap receiver. This paper gives functional definition, inner business logic, and implementation of each part.In the implementation part, this paper specifies on MOTO's CMTS BSR64000. It describes major classes in adapter. It also emphases on several key problem solving methods: dynamically creating CBSR64000Adapter class, callback mechanism in CAdapterFrame, as well as the asynchronous task model implementation. The implementation has been applied in CMTS network management system. This adapter designation represents a useful effort for adapter designation in wider areas. |
