In recent years, as the scale of IP network expands and the number of users increases quickly, the network customers require higher quality of service and better network security. It is of great important for network testing and network management tools to ensure the efficiency and reliable operation of network. By these testing methods, distributed network measurement equipments can be applied to effectively monitor network status and to locate network faults, as well as to provide precious analyzsis data for improving the network performance. In this dissertation, the design and implementation of traffic generator and RFC2544 module of the IP network tester are mainly addressed.Firstly, the key technologies of the embedded IP Network Measurement and their implementation are discussed, and the IP network performance measurement indicators and measurement methods are highlighted; In addition, the GUI technology of the embedded Linux system is elaborated; Secondly, we introduce the concepts of network traffic and the methods to generate traffic, illustrate the Libnet development process, and implement a traffic generator based on Libnet with which various protocol data packetas and of different data rates can be produced. Thirdly, we analyze the testing pattern and testing condition of RFC2544, and implement a testing module of RFC2544; Finally, systemic deficiencies and subsequent development are discussed.
