Fatigue driving ranks the third in the hazard factors influencing the accident occurrence listed in the 2007 "World Prevention Road traffic Accident reporting" from the WHO, so, it has great practical significance to study the fatigue driving detecting system. The traditional system can't meet the demand of real-time because of the complex algorithm, so, it is imperative to design a system with high real-time.The paper presents a fatigue driving detecting system based on FPGA. The system introduces infrared source principle, captures ocular region's dynamic image through image sensor, examines and analyzes eye's condition by means of real-time imagery processing technology which includes image difference, gray projection and complexity operation, calculates blinks the frequency to decide whether the driver is weary or not and carry on the real-time warning. The main work includes: firstly, we design the system's hardware circuit under Protel DXP 2004 which including image gathering circuit, master control board which is responsible for the system control and auxiliary circuit. Secondly, we adopt the modulation design concept and complete the system logic design by using verilog language and internal IP cores. The logic design includes: I~2C configuration module, valid data extraction module, gray component extraction module, frame buffer module, image algorithm processing module, warning module and display module. At last, we complete the function simulation and the internal signal online simulation separately by means of Modelsim and Signal tapII.The system is integrated with image capturing, storing, algorithm processing and warning. The system's detecting speed has achieved the video frequency source 25 frames per second by using the FPGA parallel processing data's characteristic and meets the real-time demand. This system has high examination accuracy, small size, lower power, low costs and broad market prospect.
