In recent years, RFID technology is widely used in identification, logistics, security, commodity management and other areas of automatic identification technology, which can greatly improve the efficiency and reliability. A simple RFID system consists of reader and transponder, by wireless two-way radio communication, target recognition and data exchange. This attendance reader is designed on base of 13.56MHz frequency, in the way of inductively coupled.Firstly, the thesis studies the theory that how RFID system works. And gives a detailed study of the composition of RFID system, data transmission, basic work processes, systems classification, coding and modulation, and the data integrity algorithm. Secondly, it studies Mifare contactless IC card which is widely used in attendance system, analyzes the contactless IC card, RF interface, data storage and digital control units, and simply describes electromagnetic communication process beween the contactless IC card and reader. It mainly describes the contactless IC card international standard ISO/IEC 14443 protocol. Studing the protocol leads to a better understanding of transmission between the card and reader, and helps main program MCU design of reader.The reader's hardware and software design is on the base of the RFID theory.Hardware part contains power supply module, MCU which choose LPC922 chip and RFID R/W module which choose MFRC522 chip, buzzer and led which indicate the different system status. Reader's software part contains MCU control and PC's serial communication program. MCU program is coded with C which has high efficiency and easy to read. And PC's program is written by Java, it could run well under different OS. After adjusting and debugging,the whole reader could run very well.
