Controlling the overprint error is important issue of the modern printing technology. The tangential displacement in rotating parts is main cause for overprint error. The real-time monitoring system is designed for the measurement of the tangential displacement on the high-speed rotating parts. The system can be used to develop the high precision printing machinery and to monitor the overprint error; the measurement accuracy of it can reach±1 0μm.The thesis to measure the tangential displacement using technology of virtual ruler is established, the core idea of which is the establishment of a virtual standard frame of reference that can be used as a rule to measure the motion state on the surface of roller. The core technologies of this system are virtual calibration technology, dynamic tangential displacement measurement method and calculation method for system. The core technologies which make the foundation for the measuring system are analyzed in the paper.The design idea of photoelectric read-out system has been described, the phase comparison circuit and barcode system have been designed, and also the layout of software of the system including the settings and application of MCU and data processing system of PC.
