As a serial bus, IEEE 1394 bus has been widely used in consumer electronics products and computer interface because of its advantages of high-speed, hot- plugging, convenience and low price.In the project, IEEE 1394 serial bus is used to design the bi-directional data transmission system which requires higher speed. 1394 and 1394b protocol and their data transfer model are first analyzed in the paper, then the 1394 Open Host Control Interface Specifiction is simply introduced. Combined with the Windows operating system architecture and the support of Microsoft and Unibrain provide for the 1394, the WDM device driver and client applications of the IEEE 1394a bi-directional transmission system are developed,and the client applications of the IEEE 1394b bi-directional transmission system on Windows XP are developed with FireAPI. Lastly, the composition of the two kinds of 1394 stack on Windows XP, the processing and methods of driver development and the design idea and realization of the application are introduced in detail.The device driver and the application given in this paper now work well in the bi-directional data transmission systems. Asynchronous transmission and isochronous transmission are all realized in the systems.
