With the maturity of 3G communication technology and large-scale construction of 3G network, the"killer"application of 3G network-mobile video, is getting more and more people's attention. Most of the current implemented multimedia servers adopt SIP, but 3G video communication adopts 3G-324M protocol suite, so operators have put their focus on designing an interconnect device which can do signaling and media format translation between these two different protocols and offer multimedia value-added service to the 3G customer as soon as possible. The 3G Interactive Video Gateway is borned with this need.Our work is carried out just under such a background. In the first chapter of this thesis, we discuss the domestic and international status of 3G communication technology, briefly introduce the critical technologies and research status of 3G Interactive Video Gateway. In the second chapter, we introduce the 3G Interactive Video Gateway related technologies which include SIP protocol, 3G-324M protocol suit and open source software Asterisk in detail. In the third chapter, we describe the project background, carry out the needs analysis, present the gateway module structure, and design the various functional modules.The prototype system is implemented based on Asterisk which is a well-known open source VoIP software. In the fourth chapter of this thesis, we describe in detail the prototype system implementation details of each module, including the SIP protocol stack module, gateway forwarding module, and 3G-324M protocol stack module. Finally, this chapter briefly describes the implementation of SIP multimedia server and its joint test results with the prototype system.The test results in the real 3G network show that the 3G Interactive Video Gateway that we have implemented achieves the basical functionality that we have expected, accords with standard protocols , and can interoperate with the SIP multimedia server.
