The Research On The Ideology Of Marshall McLuhan In Medium Technology

Marshall McLuhan who is one of the most famous medium theory experts in the 20th century, known as the seer, plays a decisive role in the academic circles of communication at home and abroad. His book, entitled Understanding the Medium, was published in 1964, which proposed "Three Theory of the Medium" famously so as to establish his Master status. For over 40 years, his views have magically been becoming a reality, which makes the future generations amazed. When we explore the relations with medium of the world, Marshall McLuhan is one of the figures that are closely associated with it indeed.This paper probes into the medium thought of Marshall McLuhan in terms of the philosophy of science and technology by using interdisciplinary knowledge. This paper is divided into five parts. In Chapter One, this paper summarizes the research status of the technological thought of Marshall McLuhan from the academic circle, and points out the important implications of his medium technology thought by using the comparative analytical method based on the views and perspectives from the different scholars concerning the relevant issues. In Chapter Two, this paper summarized the research status of the technological thought of Marshall McLuhan from the scholars at home and abroad in terms of the analysis on the concept of medium and technology. In Chapter Three, this paper analyzes the medium technology thought from Marshall McLuhan in detail. On the basis of it, it analyzes his thought that has the practical impact on the individual and social development of human being. In Chapter Four, it sheds light on the limitation of the medium technology thought from Marshall McLuhan and further does the scientific orientation for the medium technology thought from Marshall McLuhan in terms of four respects.In Chapter five, through the analysis on the contribution and limitation of Marshall McLuhan, it scientifically summarizes the historical position of Marshall McLuhan in the academic circle.With the development of internet rapidly, more and more attention has been focused on the social role, in which medium technology plays. Marshall McLuhan and his theory concerning the medium theory will again be valued by the academic circles, whose non-positivism research method will eventually be acknowledged, which proves the scientific nature of his medium theory. Therefore, there is an absolute need for us to do the philosophical reflection on the medium thought of Marshall McLuhan systematically.
